Local marketing playbook

Same local marketing mistakes, 15 years running

Local marketing has changed a lot in 15 years. The mistakes Charlotte business owners make have not.

Mistake 1: Treating marketing as a project, not a habit. Owners spend a weekend overhauling the website, then ignore marketing for a year. Then wonder why leads dried up. Local marketing is a weekly rhythm, reviews, posts, photos, small website updates, not an annual event.

Mistake 2: Trying to be everything to everyone. "We serve all of the Carolinas, all customers, all services." Google has no idea who to send to you. Neither do referral partners. Niche down. One service, one city, one ideal customer. You can broaden later.

Mistake 3: Buying tactics instead of fixing fundamentals. New logo before the Google Business Profile is finished. A TikTok strategy before the website even loads on a phone. Fancy CRM before anyone answers the phone consistently. Fix the base layer first. Then add on.

If you have been in business for more than three years and any of those three sound familiar, you already know what your next move should be.
