The worst number in a local business: one lead source

The most dangerous number in any local Charlotte business is one. One staff member who knows everything. One vendor. One big client.

And especially: one source of leads.

We have seen Charlotte businesses with 100% of their leads coming from Google Ads. When Google's algorithm shifted and their costs doubled overnight, they had no plan B.

We have seen businesses 100% dependent on referrals from one general contractor. When that contractor retired, the phone stopped ringing.

Healthy local businesses have at least three working lead sources at any given time. For most Charlotte service businesses, that looks like:

  • **Google Business Profile / map rankings**, free, compounds over time
  • **Organic website traffic**, slower to build, very hard for competitors to kill
  • **Paid ads or referrals**, fast, controllable, but rented

If any one of those goes to zero tomorrow, you still have a business. That is the goal.
